Bode Miller, the Olympics, and golf

Some of us (you know who you are, Golf Chick) will be tuning in to the events in Torino simply to watch Bode Miller – U.S. downhill skiing maverick, mad scientist, and speed demon. Okay, maybe he makes Terrell Owens look like a team player, but he’s also the hottest athlete alive (sorry, Retief).

And, oh yeah, he’s a golfer, 10 handicap, started playing in his teens in New Hampshire during the state’s annual three months of bad skiing.

Considering his ability to read slopes better than anyone, it’s no wonder that he’s pretty good on the greens as well. In golf, you get a chance to play the course prior to competition. In the three slalom events, you get one inspection, so you’d better be able to spot the line before you go screaming down it at 60+ mph. “I have technique, but no one would call it style,” he says. “If you want to ski like me, you have to be me.” No one would ever complain that he lacks self-confidence.

After spending a week getting away from his latest media uproar, some minor thing about saying Lance Armstrong and doping in the same sentence, he took off to Dubai to play five rounds with his brother Chelone. We don’t know how he played, but at the World Cup on his first day back, he placed third. So it’s reasonable to assume that the fairways helped his focus. Maybe that should be required training for all of Team USA: 18 holes. And they don’t even have to go to Dubai.

Think he throws a few back when he golfs? If he skis on a buzz, imagine how he drives carts! Wonder if his partners have to point him down the correct fairway on a routine basis?

Body... I mean Bode Miller? What makes you think I'd have any interest in this fearless young bad-boy when I'm awake? Oh yeah, for his skiing. Go U.S.A.!

And Gretchen Bleiler, silver medalist in halfpipe, is also a golfer.

Bode Miller, Hah! What a joke! This guy is the flop of the Olympics, another media creation who couldn't deliver in the end. Reports were that he was spotted out late the night before the his downhill trials, what an ass clown. Plenty of time in life to drink and party, he disgraced himself and the Olympics. Jennifer, I wouldn't have guessed you liked the unshaven, beer-bloated, slacker type.

Bode Miller. Not an athlete. Doesn't know the meaning of it. Great example of why kids should not be home schooled. Never learned about anything except self and selfishness.
Worst team player ever on a team. Why the US SKI Team Officials kept him is a disgrace and BODE(s) badly for their ethics and inability to protect American Ideals of winning and team participation (even in an individual sport). Same thoughts go out on that speed skater who wouldn't join in the team relay event. Both these guys should be on the Luge team as the biggest "lugers" in American sport.
Disgusting.
Recommendation to those who commercially sponsor Bode... drop him on his drunken, selfish ass.

Bode is a great skier and athlete. He was not at his best when he needed to be, and his competition was. Bode didn't lose, a few others were just better on those days.
The problem really is you lemmings let the media set your expectations, and now listen to you. You are pathetic. What did the media say about Ted Ligety? And look what he did. And how about Rahlves? He was favored, and came in tenth with nothing in his other two events. Hmmm?
I remember a short time ago when you lemmings wrote off Tiger when he was in a bit of a slump. Lemmings.
It's about human performance boys and girls. The better athletes win on given days, the best win consistently. If Bode wants a beer, that's his business. If his numbers slide and he fails to qualify to contest, he's gone.
Now go watch your TV and find other things to piss and moan about. Just don't be the slow 4-some in front of me.
