Those of you suffering from major Major withdrawal can get your fix this weekend; today marks the beginning of major season, with the start of the LPGA’s Kraft Nabisco Championship.

Who’s going to take a swim come Sunday? My money’s on Lorena Ochoa. Coming off a win last weekend at the Safeway International, Ochoa’s on the hunt for her first major victory. She’s currently topping the LPGA’s money list, just as she did in 2006. A win this weekend will crown her the LPGA’s best golfer–a nice accolade to accompany last year’s Female Athlete of the Year and the LPGA’s Player of the Year awards.

To win she’ll have to battle defending champion/potential tri-winner Karrie Webb, who nailed last year’s victory with a combination of incredible skill and blind luck. Last year lightning struck for Webb, when the hole got in the way of her 116-yard pitching wedge on 18 to force a playoff.

Ochoa will also have to battle a victory-hungry Annika Sorenstam. Sorenstam had to settle for third place on last year’s money list, and had to settle for second last month after a heart-breaking four-hole sudden death playoff at the MasterCard Classic.

One thing Ochoa won’t face this weekend is Michelle Wie–Wie, who was one putt away from joining last year’s playoff, is still nursing an injured wrist and won’t appear on the LPGA again until the Ginn Open, April 12-15.

I say there's no chance this year's KN will equal the drama of 2006. That one was almost too good to be true.
