Ochoa, Kerr, Pressel: Three of golf's biggest names top the leaderboard at the US Women's Open
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - Lorena Ochoa, Cristie Kerr, Morgan Pressel.
NBC is breathing a sigh of relief: they couldn’t have asked for a more watchable threesome for the final pairing here at the US Women’s Open. No more scrambling through the media guide, trying to find info on players you’ve never heard of.
Weather shouldn’t be a factor today?conditions are great on this final day of the Open. It’s about 75 degrees, sunny and clear, without even the usual mugginess that’s made the last few days so uncomfortable. Groups are going off in threes from both the first and tenth tees to make up for all those weather delays.
Two Americans managed to sneak into that pairing that looked like it was going to be reserved either for the usual South Korean crew, or the upstart South Americans. Cristie Kerr fired a remarkable third-round 66 to push her way into the lead, with Ochoa and Pressel keeping up a steady pace at three-under.
Not that the South Koreans aren’t still lurking. A Korean flag is still waving over six of the top-ten leaderboard spots.
Round 4 started at 10:45 this morning. Look for the final group to tee off at 12:45.
