Queer Eye for the golfin'-rollin' guy

Win a free golf book!

Several months ago, I did a story on disabled golfers, the hurdles they face and the equipment designed to help them enjoy the game.

Featured prominently in that article was the SoloRider company, and one of the distributors of SoloRider single-rider carts, John Hikel of Total Access Golf.

Recently, John was asked by the folks at Queer Eye for the Straight Guy to come to NYC and be a part of a show. It seems the eye-guys were re-making a US Marine recently returned from Iraq. The Marine had suffered severe injuries in battle, but wanted to continue playing golf.

Long story short: Hikel went and provided the wheels for the disabled yet stylish veteran. (And chances are, the armor on the SoloRider is thicker than in many of the Humvees in Iraq!)

The episode is slated to air June 21st, 2005, on BRAVO. So mark your calendars, mix up an appletini, stretch out on the divan, and watch golf and some gay guys do something really nice for a real hero.

Could there be any nicer story than this one? I think about Vietname, when I was no older than 8 or 9, and the way returning soldiers were treated. Be it the Hollywood influence or the nicening of America, we have a lot to be proud of regarding the way we treat this new generation of soldiers. Bravo, QEFTSG and Kiel for letting us never forget.
