Made-for-TV events: Fun? Obscene? Obscene fun?
Tuesday June 28, 2005 | 20:06:43 604 words, 3270 views
So all of you who wondered why I was writing about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes last week were certainly justified. “Why here?” you hollered.
Fair enough. I guess I figured if David Feherty could report on his struggle with Demon Rum (or Demon Irish Whiskey in his case) in Golf Magazine, I could vent about the Cult of Fame we in America seem so obsessed with.
But back to the golf:
The made-for-TV-event The ING Par-3 Shootout wrapped up today at Treetops Resort in Gaylord, Michigan. If you don’t feel like staying up for the tape-delayed coverage on ESPN2, Andy North ... full post »
Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes: Who cares?
Friday June 24, 2005 | 16:45:50 261 words, 6640 views
I know it ain’t golf, but damn it, I’m sick to bloody death of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Star whore Oprah gushed all over Cruise when he appeared on her show. She was so ecstatic that he was so ecstatic and the audience was just so, well, ecstatic.

Well, here’s why in my book, The Open ranks well above the US Open:
First, The Open is 35 years older than the US Open. And the courses that The Open is played on today were nearly all included in the ... full post »
Get ED drug ads out of golf broadcasts!
Monday June 6, 2005 | 16:15:11 503 words, 3204 views
Televised golf has gotten about as bad as it can get. In fact, it’s gotten downright obscene. And I’m not talking about David Toms’ middle finger.
Before elaborating, let me say that I am pretty much the furthest thing from a prude you can find. In fact, I think Paris Hilton’s Hardee’s commercial is just fine.
But what is really, truly offensive is the BARRAGE of ads for erectile dysfunction meds that bombard us golf viewers at every commercial break. I mean come on. We golfers were just beginning to shake the stereotype of being fashion-challenged, only to be thought of now ... full post »
