SMT Golf offers golf glove with a lifetime warranty

The weather in central Illinois has been warming up considerably (aside from today’s sleet), and I’ve wrestled my overloaded golf bag out of the basement and begun taking stock. Other than my swing, which seems to have completely abandoned me, just about everything seems to be in order.

Everything except my golf gloves. They’re ratty, frayed, crumpled, and worn smooth. Golf gloves are the bane of my equipment existence. I go through five or six in a year, wearing them out and losing them. It probably doesn’t help that at times I find myself gripping the club so tightly you’d think it was an angry cobra ready to kill me if I relaxed for a second.

Of course, this is how golf glove manufacturers make their money. You have to buy them year in and year out, usually several times a year.

So imagine my surprise when one of my favorite rags-to-riches equipment companies, SMT Golf in Oswego, Ill., introduced the SMT Lifetime Warranty Golf Glove.

According to SMT founder Michael Tait, the warranty on the glove is no different from the warranty on any of the company’s long-drive champion clubs: Unconditional and forever, for any reason “including stupidity,” says Tait.

In a recent press release, SMT described the glove and the rather remarkable warranty like this:

“The golf glove is made from the finest quality New Zealand Possum Leather and is made to withstand the torture that players put their golf gloves through. If the glove ever gets torn, wet, dirty, sweaty, wrinkled…actually if anything happens to it at all, you can return it for a new one. Most golfers go through five or six golf gloves in a year. Not anymore. This is the last golf glove you’ll ever have to buy.”

Who knew possums were so damn tough?

Of course the glove does cost $59 on the SMT website, but when I consider that I might go through 6 gloves a year, at around $10 each…well, you do the math.

Now if I could just find a swing with a lifetime guarantee.
