Our other intrepid Golf Gear Guy, Bruce Stasch says he doesn’t care what golf bag the pros play. And I have to agree.

But non-pro golfing celebs at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am? Now that’s something completely different.

You see, these amateurs don’t wear or carry something because it makes them play better. For the most part, they stink no matter what.

But many of these folks are celebs because they are flamboyant, eye-catching, talented people. They have style.

Well, most of them do, anyway. We’ll ignore the corporate barons that get the coveted invite. Many of these guys are dot-com giants, and quite frankly, once a computer geek, always a computer geek.

What I noticed, though, is that Ecco Golf shoes adorned the tender tootsies of many of the famous duffers at the Clambake this year.

Of course, Ecco was savvy enough to sign a big sponsorship deal with the high-profile event, as part of a big pus into the US market. Nevertheless, I felt vindicated for my recent descriptions of Ecco golf shoes as cool.

You see, apparently some readers feel that golf writers abdicate all right to express his opinion about style once they turn 40.

Fine. Whatever. But my buds Tom Brady and Bill Murray (OK, he’s old, too, but did you see Lost in Translation?) agree with me on the shoes.

Bill Murray and his Ecco shoes. Lime green is this year’s black.

Oakley Golf has some delicious footwear, while Bite Golf offers some tasty toe-sacks. It's always the lesser-knowns that provide the best packs, say I. FootJoy and Adidas, Reebok, too, rarely do anything radical. Saw Bill in blue shoes today at Outback...no Elvis sightings, por favor!
