The Eisenhower Course at Industry Hills Golf Club back in the game

The Eisenhower Course at Industry Hills Golf Club in Industry, Calif., has got to be the most under-the-radar championship course in any major West Coast city.

Recently re-opened after a multi-million-dollar renovation that included the complete overhaul of six holes, “The Ike” is a 7,211-yard, par-72 beauty that lies just minutes from downtown Los Angeles. The course sits atop a sprawling ridge that commands views of West Covina and the San Gabriel Mountains beyond.

But that’s not even the best part.

The original Ike was the 1982-1983 LPGA Tour stop, but it was deemed “too difficult” and abandoned by the ladies. How hard was it? Well, the course opened in 1979 and the course record is still only a one-under 71, posted by none other than Fred Couples. Let’s just say that the 75.4 course rating and 144 slope rating are well-deserved.

The new incarnation is no less difficult, but offers resort guests at the adjoining Pacific Palms Conference Resort the choice of five tee boxes, so golfers of all skill levels can play without feeling overwhelmed.

But that’s still not the best part.

The Ike’s sister course, the Zaharias Course, is currently also undergoing renovation. It is shorter and tighter – and easier – with a more resort-like feel. Once “The Babe” re-opens, there will be plenty of tee times for both resort guests and the general public. There’s also a brand-new short-game practice area at the resort, and plans for a palatial new clubhouse.

But that’s still not the best part.

The best part is that you can play a round of spectacular golf here, just outside of Tinseltown, for under $100. Seriously, there are a few holes here that you and your buddies will be talking about for years – for less than $100!

Maybe it’s best that The Ike stays under the radar. If it doesn’t, golfers will be all over it like paparazzi on Lindsay Lohan.

The 386-yard 2nd on The Ike is one of those holes you’ll be talking about for years.
