Something just occurred to me as I tuned into the WGC Accenture World Match Play Championship quarterfinals.
Where are the traditional equipment giants, like Titleist and TaylorMade?
The quarterfinals feature three Nike (Tiger Woods, Stewart Cink, Justin Leonard) and one Srixon (Henrik Stenson) staff players.
Although many of the old-old-line companies have experienced recent major success (Angel Cabrera/ Ping, Padraig Harrington/Wilson), they are far less visible on the Tour these days.
And now, it seems, these upstart companies are taking over.
Remember, Nike has been making golf equipment for less than a decade. And Srixon, although it holds a multitude of golf ball patents, is not one of those names that springs to mind when you think of golf clubs.
Unless, of course, you happen to see it all afternoon on the WGC Match Play Championship.

*sigh* I had thought that 'mon' was over his slump into pointlessness...but I guess I was wrong.
