Best food in La Jolla? Try George's at the Cove

When you’re a foodie, you remember certain dinners with a fondness normally reserved for long-lost lovers or dead pets.
Last month, while covering the U.S. Open, I had the pleasure of dining at George’s at the Cove in La Jolla, which had been recommended by the folks at Lexus as a restaurant that epitomized what they refer to as the “Lexus Lifestyle”.

Now, I don’t normally inhabit whatever sort of ephemeral realm the “Lexus Lifestyle” implies, but the memory of that fine meal is still vividly with me: black olive cured albacore tuna, rack of lamb, and a cheese plate of artisan Wisconsin and Vermont cheeses.

It was– quite literally – a taste of that lifestyle.

The nice thing is that dinner at George’s has plenty of seating, with three levels, all overlooking the ocean. No impossible-to-get reservations here. Just a menu that didn’t actually list the prices, and a location which is sadly very far removed from my Illinois abode.

You know, as far as “lifestyles” go, I could have really gotten used to that one…sigh….

Hey Kiel Buddy! Man you have no hits here in your blog. I'm in the gold over there the last three days and expect to get a raise you know. Will try to charm the boss for you with my chipmunk smile.

Just wanted the attention, so I dropped in to brag about it.

Huh. According to our software, I've had over a thousand hits. No one's called me names, though (other than "Buddy"--thanks!), so maybe by that measure of readership, I do lag behind.

I imagine you really do remember Shoal Creek, but if not, go here:
