Kikkor Golf shoes: All the other golfers with their old-school kicks
Over the years, I’ve lost count of the number of people that have told me they wouldn’t golf simply because the shoes were so homely. Or uncomfortable. Or both.
There are now several options for golf shoes that are both comfy and stylish, but a new company, Kikkor Golf, is aiming specifically at younger golfers, offering golf shoes that don’t look or feel like golf shoes, but perform with the best spikes out there.
Kikkor shoes feature built-in soft spikes in the soles of shoes that look like sneakers – and cool sneakers at that. In fact, I’ve taken to wearing my own pair of Clayburn Tennys ($99) as regular shoes, and I’ve gotten several compliments on them from college-aged guys.
“They don’t look like golf shoes,” they say. “I’d wear those anywhere.”
If these comments are typical, then Kikkor has succeeded in its goals. On the company website, the founder, former top-level college player James Lepp, explains Kikkor’s four guiding principles:
1. It doesn’t matter what age you are, 10, 25, or 45, nobody truly wants to wear the same stuff as their dad.
2. The golf shoe industry consistently designs shoes that are targeted only for the older demographic, leaving younger players with very few options that match their personal style.
3. Do we really have to wear dress shoes on the golf course?
4. The need for really comfortable golf shoes.
Now, I may be one of the “older demographic” referred to in no. 2, but my Kikkors are super comfy and have become my go-to golf shoes.
Best of all, I don’t need to change shoes going to and from the course. No more saddle shoes for me! All the other golfers with their old-school kicks better run, baby run, farther than my tee shot …
