Nothing understated about Royal and Awesome golf wear
Watching John Daly rock the Loudmouth golf pants at the PGA Championship makes me think of another brash golf clothier from the other side of the pond – Royal and Awesome.
Think that a British outfit will be more understated than its Yank counterpart? Think again. Royal and Awesome offers trousers ($75), shorts ($60), and flat caps ($30) every bit as wince-worthy and chuckle-inducing as anything on the market. The trousers come with a nice divot repair tool attached, which struck me as a nice touch, and the company slogan, “For the pars and the bars,” I also find to be pretty catchy.
I got myself a nice pair of Old Tom’s Trews (pictured below) and was stoked to hit the local municipal links. Sadly, UK sizes seem to run a good bit smaller than US sizes. I couldn’t have gotten the Royal and Awesome 36″ waist fastened around my midsection using a hydraulic winch (whereas my US 36″ trousers are plenty roomy). But maybe I should indeed be hitting fewer bars and trying to card a few more pars.
Oh, well. I don’t need funny pants to throw off the guys in my usual Saturday morning foursome – my funny swing does that just fine.
