Paid too much for a golf course in bad shape? No refund? Contact the BBB

Ever leave a golf course feeling you didn’t get anywhere near your money’s worth. You know, patchy tees, overseeded or brown greens, etc. Usually complaining in the pro shop is going to get you nowhere. Here’s a tip, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in your area. You’d be amazed at how courses will react when faced with a BBB inquiry. And why not? They’re just businesses like any other, right?

Frankly, given the state of the golf industry and the glut of playing options (not to mention other cheaper options competing for our discretionary dough), it’s amazing that some courses would even let it get to this.

Hey, course owners: Got patchy greens? Give golfers a price cut until they’re 100% again. You’d think customer service is a pretty simple concept but, given that reader rants that continually come across my desk, it went out the window once corporate ownership became the norm in golf.

Wow, what a concept! Accountability, hmmmm? BOB is right on the $$$$$ with this observation. In western New York, we have a bunch of new courses (four or five) slated to open or already open, not to mention the two waves of construction (turn of the millenium and 2005) across the Niagara creek in Canada. We've seen older upscale courses turn it up a notch, while the mid-range courses are making a run at near-upscale conditioning.

Interesting you should mention this. A local course here in Memphis is paying the players back.

Here it is the 4th of July and they are still on their winter greens, and they are pretty shabby. But, if you play a round, you get a voucher to be redeemed later for a free round on the new "summer" greens.

Not only does this make each player feel like their being taken care of, word of mouth will spread that this course is concerned about your next golf outing.

Personally, I feel like I ma getting my moneys worth and walk away from each outing with a smile on my face.

Recently stayed at Cypress Bend Golf Resort in Louisiana. The course was fine, but I was hoping for a refund on my accommodations.

This place has some serious management problems. It's adverstised as a 4-star resort and on the surface it's very appealing.
The view is unbelievable and the setting is truly an Audubon exerience.

The rub comes when you try to get into your room, have a cup of coffee in the morning, or order food. Got stuck in their elevator, front desk was unresponsive to simple requests, room key failed to work time and again, room was not cleaned until 5PM--apparently because staff was either fired or quit, masseuse gave me the brush-off because it was close to quitting time, back doors remained stuck open--a breach of security, bartender could not make a vodka tonic.

Apparently this resort was built when there were plans to build a large exclusive community on the lake. This development apparently was cancelled

want to treated right ? When you go to Myrtle Beach book thru Grande Shores hotel. I have been going to MB for 9 years. The last 4 I have booked thru this hotel they have always opted to refund something if the courses don't match up.
