Michelle Wie and collard greens at the Masters?
Friday July 22, 2005 | 07:43:20 152 words, 906 views
Commenting on Doug Carey’s recent blog advising Michelle Wie how to plot her future on (LPGA? PGA?) tour, a reader named Bill wrote, “The PGA Tour is for the best of the best, not for the best white men. Remember it was not that longer ago when they were going to sever (sic) Collard Greens at the Masters! …” Can someone tell me what the heck’s wrong with collard greens!? Does a FOOD have some offensive connotation? Man, I LOVE collard greens! Down home cookin’ like collards and BBQ (be it Texas style or Southern smoked pork) is one of the things about America I miss the most living here in Europe. In fact, I’d reckon that, despite our obvious disagreements, the Rebel Blogger and I might be able to to peacefully coexist if it was over a table of pulled pork, greens, biscuits, black-eyed peas and rice and sweet tea. Oh HECK yeah! Greens of any kind (collard, mustard, turnip, beet, etc) are perfect with TX barbecue and charro beans. This testimonial is brought to you by your basic white-bread 46 y.o. farm boy from the midwest..."greens" should NOT be considered a "race" thing!!! Thanks.
