Blogger takes on New York Times blogs article, more
Wednesday November 30, 2005 | 09:09:58 154 words, 1307 views
A couple weeks ago, in a column for the weekly WorldGolf.com newsletter, I (with tongue somewhat in cheek) chided golf bloggers for how they covered the Golf Digest/PGA Tour partnership deal. That resulted in a number of responses from readers and golf bloggers, some branding me a dope, some saying “who cares about that deal anyway!?” and others complimenting the piece. A lot of good points were raised, especially with regards to the role that bloggers (at least some bloggers) like to play: that of “self-styled people’s journalists who serve as watchdogs picking up the slack from the fat, ... full post »
Tiger pukes then cleans up in Grand Slam opening round
Wednesday November 23, 2005 | 07:26:43 588 words, 1359 views
Some of my favorite highlights from the post-round press conference after the first day at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Poipu Beach, Hawaii:
ON THE TOPIC OF TIGER’S AILING TUMMY:
Q. Are you surprised how well Tiger did today?
VIJAY SINGH: Tiger just won in Japan. (Laughing). So it’s no surprise
he’s going to play well. You know, maybe if he wasn’t throwing up, he probably would have drove everything out there.
PGA PR GUY JULIUS MASON: And on the throw up note, we will thank Mr. Singh for joining us, and we will say hello ... full post »
Yes, Viginia, there is an Asian Seniors Tour in golf
Tuesday November 22, 2005 | 07:37:22 151 words, 954 views
Back in June, I wrote a column about senior pro golf for the WorldGolf.com newsletter that made an off-the-cuff reference wondering if there’s such a thing as an Asian senior circuit.
Now, out of the blue and nearly half a year later, I just got an e-mail solving that mystery. Yes, Virginia, there is an Asian Senior Tour!
“I just wish to let you know that Chuan Campbell and myself created the Asian Seniors Tour 3 years ago and have since held 2 senior professional golf tournaments with the most recent having been won by Champions Tour Player, Stewart Ginn,” Tournament Director ... full post »
Wie can make cut vs. the guys in Japan, Tiger says
Tuesday November 22, 2005 | 07:08:50 81 words, 956 views
Tiger Woods says he wouldn’t be surprised to see Michelle Wie make the cut this week in the Casio World Open, an event on the Japanese men’s tour. Playing - of course - on a sponsor’s exemption, Wie arrived in Japan nearly a week early to prepare for the event (and, one has to assume, hawk a few shoes).
No word on whether Tiger and Michelle have discussed his passing on the burden of being the One Who Will Save The Golf Industry. full post »
Sorenstam, Creamer get it on in Donald Trump's back yard
Friday November 18, 2005 | 09:44:52 254 words, 1417 views
This from an AP story about the heated spat between Paula Creamer and Annika Sorenstam at the ADT Championship at Trump International in my old stomping ground of West Palm Beach, Fla.:
After a debate that lasted so long it was almost too dark to finish at Trump International, the ruling ultimately went Sorenstam’s way.
Now, watching all the comments to all TG blogs roll in, I know we have some golf gurus out there. Can one of you please let me know how long a dispute like this should really take to resolve? I’m not being wisea$$ or rhetorical here. ... full post »
Stop ignoring Bob! So who's played Reunion Resort in Orlando?
Monday November 14, 2005 | 15:33:44 162 words, 1412 views
After reading Tim McDonald’s 2004 review of Reunion Resort down in Orlando, reader Bob Lynch posted a message looking for some more recent feedback from other readers.
“Anyone have a recent review of the courses at Reunion Resort Orlando?” he wrote. “We’re planning to go down in February 2006 with a group of 16.”
Seemingly bummed that his only response has been the chirp of crickets, he just posted this plea:
by Bob Lynch
Bob, just want to point out that the entire internet is ignoring you here … rightfully so. If you want to rate the place, pony up and fly down to ... full post »
