UK writer John Huggan calls Ryder Cup Captain Tom Lehman 'America's Mister Angry'
Tuesday April 11, 2006 | 13:43:10 284 words, 1400 views
Writing here in the scotsman.com, John Huggan holds U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Tom Lehman to the fire for, among other things, his flirtation with the idea of being a playing captain come September.
“More than one former skipper has pointed out the folly of even attempting to play and captain at the same time,” Huggan writes. “Apart from anything else, the two roles are logistically exclusive. … Still, none of the above seems to be putting the five-time PGA Tour winner off.”
Huggan also details a few incidents from Lehman’s past - “behaviour that can only be described as unacceptably ill-tempered.”

Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand soaking up Augusta aura at the Masters
Friday April 7, 2006 | 10:13:25 141 words, 1022 views
Our old friend Bangkok Al may have slipped off into retirement (bidding adieu with this epic farewell blast at Rush Limbaugh), but I suspect he’s somewhere down in Thailand right now, sipping a Scotch and following the Masters action like a hawk.
Give Al credit for bringing to light golfer Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand. Heading into the second round, Jaidee was sitting at T68, 6 over. Not a stellar Augusta debut, perhaps. But the fact that he’s there at all is a great story.
As Vijay Singh told reporters Thursday, “I was talking to Thongchai Jaidee the other day. He just ... full post »
Pretenders on the Masters leaderboard after round 1 in Augusta

Looking at the leaderboard after round 1, two guys caught my eye (besides the leader, Vijay, and Tiger Woods, I mean).
Ben Crenshaw - Hmm, this is a Ryder Cup year and Ben led the Americans’ amazing comeback in 1999 at Brookline as captain of that team. Could the planets be aligning for him? Could the old man from Texas be poised for a run that would earn him a third green jacket and make us all forget Jack Nicklaus in 1986? Well, no. He’ll fade. But it is really cool to see Crenshaw tied for 8th at one under. At ... full post »
Bad mix for Colorado: San Francisco strip clubs, college golfers
Thursday April 6, 2006 | 17:48:50 268 words, 1054 views
What happened to the days when it was ok to let your college golf team head off to a strip club!? Turns out seven golfers on the University of Colorado’s men’s team and their 34-year-old interim coach have been suspended after a trip to a strip club in San Francisco “and other undisclosed improprieties,” according to a story by B.G. Brooks in the Rocky Mountain News.
It’s hard to believe interim coach Brad Neher (who didn’t make or condone the trip - but did not prevent it) would have let this happen; at CU, especially. Remember, this is the school where ... full post »
Overzealous Michelle Wie fans and their Baldwin vagina monologues
Monday April 3, 2006 | 04:29:34 136 words, 17710 views
Dear Readers: Just a word of warning …… We tend to run a pretty loose ship here in terms of policing the comments you post on our blogs. Spam gets deleted right away in most cases, as do posts that contain profanity or offensive content, threats, etc. Generally that’s about it.
Lately, however, certain readers (or a reader?) have deemed it clever to repeatey accuse Michelle Wie chronicler Chris Baldwin of “having a vagina,” to speculate that his “vagina hurts,” and so forth. While the word vagina certainly is not profanity and is not even offensive in most usages …… the ... full post »
