Bad mix for Colorado: San Francisco strip clubs, college golfers

What happened to the days when it was ok to let your college golf team head off to a strip club!? Turns out seven golfers on the University of Colorado’s men’s team and their 34-year-old interim coach have been suspended after a trip to a strip club in San Francisco “and other undisclosed improprieties,” according to a story by B.G. Brooks in the Rocky Mountain News.

It’s hard to believe interim coach Brad Neher (who didn’t make or condone the trip - but did not prevent it) would have let this happen; at CU, especially. Remember, this is the school where in 2004 football players were caught taking visiting recruits to a local strip joint and - allegedly - strippers were paid to entertain said prospects at parties off campus.

The CU golf team was in Stevinson, Calif., March 27-28 to play in a tournament. Some of the guys on the team drove more than 100 miles to San Francico, where they hit the nudie bar, according the RMN story. Think about this: They drove 200+ miles round trip just to drink overpriced, watered-down cocktails and gawk at naked women. We’re not even talking a three-day weekend in Vegas but one lousy evening!

CU’s athletic director suspended Neher and the seven golfers for their next event, The Intercollegiate in Cary, N.C. this Friday and Saturday. (It is unclear whether or not the team had plans to make a sidetrip to Santee, S.C.)

There are many lessons to be learned from all this. Mostly: If you’re gonna be an athlete at the University of Colorado, it’s much better to be a football player.

You obviously have never been to an adult entertainment establishment in San Francisco. "Nudie" bars there offer quite an array of services. The drinks are strong, the girls are hot, dirty, naughty, and risque. The famously liberal San Francisco government chooses to look the other way while patrons pay for special services. My thought is that the CU boys and their dinner money had a lively time. Google the O"Farrell for more on San Francisco's "Red light" clubs.

If the girls in those San Francisco clubs offer "special services," the prices must be astronomical. It's sad that anyone would need to pay that much for a little attention.
