Arnold Palmer is baaaaaack (Senior Open news no surprise; sad nonetheless)

After withdrawing from the Senior PGA Championship because he felt he wouldn’t be competitive (and despite a spokeman’s mid May assurances that the King has “kind of put all his golf on hold"), Arnold Palmer now says he’s going to play in the U.S. Men’s Senior Open in July in Hutchinson, Kan.

Via a press release about his “comeback,” Palmer addressed the state of his golf game. “My golf has certainly not been up to par of late. Hopefully, by the time I get to Kansas, my game will be much better.”

I don’t know what exactly a 76-year-old man does to turn around his sad golf game in just over a month. But here’s wishing Palmer the best in doing whatever it is he’s trying to accomplish with this two-day appearance.

I am quite sure a 76 year old man does the same thing a 16 year old kid or 26 year old or 36 year old or 46 year old, or anyone of any age does to improve their golf game! WORK ON IT, PRACTICE, SEEK A LESSON and/or WHATEVER else it takes!!!! Where do you get off making snide remarks about Arnold Palmer and his golf game. The 2006 Senior Open committee can thank their lucky stars that he IS going to play. I am also sure many of them would get down and kiss his feet for entering and playing in their Open. The impact his presence will have on the tournament, fans, players and ESPECIALLY the gate will be huge, just as his impact on Professional Golf as we know it TODAY has been. Without ARNOLD PALMER the professional golf world would still be made up of struggling individuals traveling across the country as second class citizens to the local country club members!! GROW UP AND GET A LIFE!!!!

Even though Arnold doesn't play as well as he would want to, for me and many other fans, when he decides to play it makes the tournament more interesting, and if he were to find his game to be able to make the cut or do even better, the golf world would be thrilled!
