Prior to British Open, writer Lawrence Donegan gets in on the Michelle Wie bashing

Wednesday August 2, 2006 | 18:42:38 126 words, 1276 views
Win a free golf book!

Oi! In this article in The Guardian, Lawrence Donegan tosses out a few nasty gems including these two:

“Failure comes in many shapes and forms but seldom has it looked less like failure than it does on the CV of Michelle Wie … .”

And: “… Wie’s critics - who are not hard to find in the world of women’s golf - will point out that, for all her undeniable talent, winning tournaments has never been her forte.”

Donegan goes on to quote young Michelle as saying, “Well, you know, obviously it is very frustrating right after you finish playing. It’s like, oh my God, I was close again.”

I know I’m not alone in saying that, the teen sensation does win one, it’ll be like totally so cool. Go, Michelle!

Quoting out of context? He was hardly bashing Wie, but he was bashing Wie bashers. I am getting concerned about Travelgolf site, as Ron Mon indicated. We all know that folks come to the site for the comments, not the blogs. The inane arguments concerning Wie seems to be fading. What next, now?

There was a strange part of the article where it was suggested that Michelle Wie is somehow remiss in not asking the LPGA for a special exemption that would give her membership without meeting the 18 year old minimum age requirement.

It is really amusing that people who critize Michelle Wie for getting special exemptions are also criticizing her for not asking for one.

Jim C.... it's Sponsor's exemptions on the PGA vs. a waiver to play full time on the LPGA tour... I don't think they are quite the same. Of course, you probably knew this but just wanted to portray it differently....
