American golf takes it on the chin in John Huggan's Xmas wish list

GolfBlogger writes here about a recent golf column by John Huggan of The Scotsman.

Huggan’s piece is supposed to be a Christmas wish list for golf but it contains some rather acidic jabs at golf in America such as calling for a World Tour minus the U.S. ("the European, Australasian, African, Japanese and Asian tours need to … join together and travel all over the planet offering the very best players an alternative to the stultifying boredom of life and play on what is currently the world’s most powerful and richest circuit"), and wishing for a drought in the States ("Instead of wedging on to pudding-like greens from basically anywhere, Uncle Sam’s nieces and nephews would suddenly be forced to consider where best to place their drives. Angles would have to be created in order that approach shots could be landed short and run up to the flag. Thinking on the golf course? What a concept, eh?").

Huggan also calls for “less jibberish from commissioners and executive directors,” writing that “The master of talking bollocks is Tim Finchem, boss of the PGA Tour, but his European counterpart, George O’Grady, is a long way from immune.”

While I get a kick out of the Finchem jab (I applaud any use of the term bollocks) and I do generally admire his knowledge of golf, this Huggan chap seems like a rather bitter dude. I’m going to have to ask my friend Clive Agran - arguably the most gifted golf writer either side of the Urals - what’s up.
