Is Michelle Wie ready to join Anna Kournikova, Maria Sharapova, Gabrielle Reece?

As WorldGolf.com’s Stacy and Barry Solomon wrote, Sports Illustrated recently tabbed 17-year-old Michelle Wie one of the “Best-Looking Athletes” of 2006 (a list that included the decidedly adult Anna Kournikova, Maria Sharapova and Gabrielle Reece among others).

Reader Baby Blue Eyes then commented:

Wie a hottie at the age of 17? Boy, this is going to open up a can of worms in the already heated battlefield…I can see this becoming extremely personal and racially charged…”

To which Stacy responded:

“She’s 17 and just a kid so how can these models think of her as a hottie? I know that men are attracted to young-looking women but this borders on criminal. Sports Illustrated should be embarrassed.”

Patricia, of the Golf Girl’s Diary blog, came to the rescue of dirty old men everywhere, though, chiming in:

“Regarding the 17 year old hottie thing, come on of course she’s a hottie. So are lots of 17- year-olds. It doesn’t mean you should have sex with them, but to say she’s not hot because she hasn’t passed the magical (legal) threshold of 18 is hypocritical. Isn’t it. Or maybe everyone’s just become ultra paranoid because of shows like ‘To Catch a Predator’.”

What do you think? Michelle Wie: Hot or not?

PS: Got a golf blog I should be reading? Let me know.

Definitely not.

Spent 2 years in Korea with the military. I find Korean women definitely unattractive.

Korean women have flat faces and flat butts. Neither characteristics I find particularly attractive.

Actually, Barry is the more conservative of the two of us. He asked me to respond to "Baby Blue Eyes...I just neglected to change the name of the commentor :(

I don't think it's bad to consider Michelle Wie as attractive, even a "hottie". She was clothed in golf attire (although I wonder if SI looked around for a more revealing photo).

Walking down the street, how can a person even distinguish between a 17-year-old and a girl that is "of age"?

I'm sure the Koreans felt likewise about you. The only thing you had going for you was some Meeguk Tong in your pocket.

If you were in Korea for two years either one, you liked the tour and extended or two, you went on an accompanied tour with your family.

If the case was number two, shame on you for taking a ham sandwich to a steak dinner.

As we all(should)know, hotness is subjective. Personally, I think Michelle is smokin, however the point is, she's certainly adult looking enough that men should not feel like perverts for for finding her sexy. It's really wrong to put a man who's attracted to an adult looking girl 17 yr.old in the same category with one who's attracted to a 4 yr. old in a sandbox. That's what's been happening lately and it's probably distracting from the actual problem of dangerous child predators. The ones who are really sick and should be put away. I suspect that in our current environment most men would be afraid to go near this subject - I'm a girl so I guess I can say WTF I want.

Is there a countdown clock somewhere for Wie like they did with the Olsen twins?

To men, she is more sexy with her overall package, rather than a pretty face.

However, as soon as she open her mouth, normal men will retreat because she sounds younger than her age.

Wie is more an athlete than Anna Kournikova...Reece is past her prime...

The only true athlete who qualifies on the SI list is Maria Sharapova where she combines looks, hotness, and highest-level performance in a popular sport.
