Why take a golf vacation? How about a 'golf sabbatical' instead?

“The golf sabbatical would do more for the industry, and possibly for the corporation than any other phenomenon on earth to enable men to ponder the big pictures of their lives, and to enjoy the freedom of not being over-regimented by families, by employers, and by society.

“Stealing time to go and play golf is probably the most common corporate pilferage, and at present, even afflicts government industry. For a game that has so captured the hearts of many, precious few hours are able to be devoted to this magnificent but time consuming game; yet, employers continue to sponsor games even while severely regimenting their employees to prevent their full exploration of the game. If women are entitled to maternal sabbaticals, why aren’t men entitled to golf sabbaticals. Personal time dictated by employers cannot provide the creativity and autonomy that humans require ‘out of the box’ in order to explore their lives, or to manage their pursuits of happiness.

“Since happiness is defined by many as golfing, there is much to be said for an industry that puts in perspective the fact that adults need free time as much as children do - to reflect, to ponder, and to explore. The world would be so much better for it, and help to prevent the feelings of entrapment that so many employer-defined workplaces acquire where employees watch their life energy being sapped away by transactional nonsense that is today called trade - or even free trade.

“Profits may be up, but for what purpose?”
