At 41 mpg, golfers are as efficient as a hybrid

Win a free golf book!

Allow me, dear readers, to take zero credit for this observation; reader Elliot DeBear just e-mailed it in:

A recent study found the average golfer walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found golfers drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a Year. That means, on average, golfers get about 41 miles to the gallon. Kind of makes you proud. Almost feel like a hybrid.

Thanks, Elliot!

(By the way, Elliot’s also been posting some great reviews of golf courses on our sites, including Greg Norman’s El Camaleon Golf Course in Mexico, Bethpage Black in New York, Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club near Cancun and Coyote Hills Golf Course near L.A.)

Now that is an interesting observation. 900 miles seems a quite a long distance. Do you want to say by the time the golfer has travelled 41 miles, he has consumed 1 gallon of alcohol?

Sweet! I started immediately doing a little math... This means that if I keep drinking about the same, but play more and more, I become more and more. :)

Now when I need a kitchen pass to get out and play, I can just tell my wife that I am going out to help the environment!

Love it.

That's the average golfer. I bet the less you drink and the more you walk, the better you will play.
