New England Golf's Martin is a Santee Stooge

Monday March 28, 2005 | 19:33:23 279 words, 589 views
Win a free golf book!
Martin pulls a con job that is dishonest to our readers. The Golf Writers Association of America could care less. It seems that Golf Cape Cod/Teeball Golf publisher Tom Martin is quite upset with The Rebel. I publicly called Martin out on the carpet on my last blog calling him a fraud. Martin pulled a con job claiming he has been to Santee, South Carolina, paid green fees and lodging, evangelicizing what a great destination it is. Turns out Martin is the publisher of Golf Cape Cod and Tee Ball Golf, a print rag in New England that is totally advertorial ... full post »

New England Golf Publisher Misleads Our Readers

Monday March 28, 2005 | 00:02:21 614 words, 980 views
Tom Martin champions Santee, South Carolina while failing to disclose his background and financial interests in Santee. I am loving this Santee controversy. It’s not just because of all of the readership this fine blog is generating. It’s not just because I enjoy watching self righteous, overpaid marketers squirm. And, it’s not just because I enjoy calling it like I see it. This little tiff has actually inspired some solid readers with legitimate viewpoints to come out and state their case - in some cases dissing The Rebel. In other cases, it has exposed some frauds in the golf industry trying to con not only you, ... full post »

Golf Instruction Schools and Academies scam golfers

Thursday March 17, 2005 | 03:10:13 479 words, 1209 views
Golf Instruction academies remind me a lot of those cosmetic surgery ads you see on TV. They have some good looking doctor who makes promises that your wrinkled, dented face can be transformed into a sculpted, perfect movie star. Like game show hosts, instruction academies lead you to believe that a 2 or3 day course at their academy can cure your ills. They will take your wrinkled, crinkled golf game and turn your god awful swing into a work of art. There you will be in a group of maybe five or more hacks whose handicaps vary wildly. You will have one pro who ... full post »

Kudos: National Post's Robert Thompson calls golf architect Wilson "dull"

Monday March 7, 2005 | 06:08:31 222 words, 677 views
The Rebel has no problem dishing it out. I will sling the cow paddies until the cows actually come home. And I am loving how Tim McDonald is blogging it up about the prissy media types who write nothing more than PR crap that confuses and misleads the public. His media column that he writes every month is worth you taking time away from your job to read on work hours. Robert Thompson, a National Post columnist, is blogging some good stuff as well. His blog… Robert Thompson’s Going For The Green He states… Good to see Tiger in the hunt, even if it ... full post »

Tiger Woods is wrong about limiting PGA tournnaments

Monday March 7, 2005 | 05:50:29 253 words, 743 views
Deep down, it appears the PGA’s billionaire phenom, Tiger Woods, is being worked way to hard. Woods: PGA Tour needs a shorter season Tiger recently said that an 11 month season is too long. He tried to compare the PGA schedule to that of other sports such as the NFL, MLB or the NBA. Tiger’s logic is a bit skewed. Golf is not a sport. It is an activity. It’s a recreation. Swinging a stick and walking around in your Cardigan is no where near the physical brutality that one endures if they are playing in the NFL, MLB or NBA. Pros can ... full post »

Many New Golf Destinations Are Overrated

Wednesday March 2, 2005 | 03:33:46 463 words, 1073 views
Hey! Want to start a golf destination? Sure, having a lot of great golf, lodging and entertainment, and splendid weather all nearby would help. Don’t have it? No problem. Just string together 10 courses, mix it with some hotels and hire a great PR flack firm to tell the world how great you are and call it a “trail.” Then invite credible PR BS specialists, posing as journalists, from major newspapers and magazines like Golf Magazine and Golf Digest. Give these urinalists free golf, cozy digs and throw in a back rub and these people will write that your asphalt parking ... full post »
