New England Golf's Martin is a Santee Stooge

Martin pulls a con job that is dishonest to our readers. The Golf Writers Association of America could care less.

It seems that Golf Cape Cod/Teeball Golf publisher Tom Martin is quite upset with The Rebel. I publicly called Martin out on the carpet on my last blog calling him a fraud. Martin pulled a con job claiming he has been to Santee, South Carolina, paid green fees and lodging, evangelicizing what a great destination it is. Turns out Martin is the publisher of Golf Cape Cod and Tee Ball Golf, a print rag in New England that is totally advertorial driven. He happens to receive advertising dollars from Santee Tourism.

His buddies are e-mailing me and they are upset with me and disappointed in Martin. Martin is disingenuous when he said he paid for his green fees and lodging. Yes, he should have stated that he is a publisher and does business with Santee. I would respect that. But he passed himself off as a regular visitor and misled our readers that he paid for green fees to support his arguement.

Golf writers NEVER pay for green fees - especially if the destination is an advertiser. However, if I am wrong, and if Martin DID pay for the golf that he claimed as stated in his blog post, I will publicly apologize. In fact, I have informed Martin that he has seven days to show me evidence he paid. If he doesn’t pony up, we all know he tried to pull a con job.

Hell, I will even throw in a can Lysol so Martin can use when he gets a lap dance from his favorite stripper.

All I have to say is "get a life, Rebel” You must have better things to do than to bother a great golf promoter like Tom Martin. You are probably one of those golfers who can't make a 3 to 2 foot putt when needed either. Have a great day, Choker!

Tim,

We agree on something. Martin is indeed a promoter not a journalist. Like a lot of great promoters, he could care less about honesty or objectivity.

If Tom says he had a great time in Santee then I believe him. Tom, even though he might have gone there for free, would not just agree for the money. I know from word of mouth that he has turned down many advertisers because they didn't have great product. Also Santee started to advertise in his magazine after the fact. If Tom was in the golf business for money alone he would of quit a long time ago. Also you call your self a journalist, maybe you should get your facts right before spilling at the mouth. You might just get your self in front of a judge…also word of mouth.
