Tiger Woods correct to leave PGA Championship

Monday August 22, 2005 | 03:03:45 222 words, 8935 views
Win a free golf book!

For Godsake, let’s get off of Tiger Woods’ back!

Needing three players to make bogey with one hole to go to get into a playoff, Tiger Woods decided that he didn’t want to stick around for an extra day all for the grand prize of finishing in third place. Apparently, heading home rather than sticking around on a Monday to particpate in a forgone conclusion was not Tiger’s idea of a fine time.

I say who cares.

The fact that the PGA started the tournament so late, pandering to TV and
their ceremonies, devalued this “major” into second tier status. Those of
you blasting Tiger Woods for heading home were not even watching the
tournament in person or on TV. You are just complaining to listen to hear
yourself talk. (Which is better to do than actually reading Chris Baldwin’s blog)

Phil Mickelson won the tournament fair and square and Tiger amscrayed for a hot tottie. There will be plenty more Tiger Woods for us to enjoy and their will be plenty more of Lefty’s choke and gags for the future. Woods, like all golfers, is an independent contractor who can leave a tournament should he wish. Something tells me that Woods is quite confident he will win many more Majors.

Maybe the PGA Championship can someday act like a Major.

It amazes me how many people think that ALL three of those guys were going to play those last 2 holes (both par FIVEs) over par. You're right on the money this time, Reb.

Rebel's right: Tiger knew he wasn't playing hackers in the club championship. Apparently some "experts" have no clue how good these guys really are, or how much respect they have for each other.

Garbage
Tiger could easily have been in a tie for the lead. There have been all sorts of collapses by people with 1 or 2 holes to play.
So what! He chose to go home and spend some time with his missus. Who can blame him for that.
He would have forfeited his chance to win, that was his choice.
It is still a free country.
His sponsors might not have been very happy.

Tiger's premature departure just further demonstrates his ability to live above the law. This jerk has no respect for the game, his fellow pros, or his misguided fawning legion of sycophants. That aside, he's a real sweetheart of a guy! Just ask Steve 'Thug' Williams.

Tiger Woods IS well on his way to becoming the greatest golfer ever, there's just no denying that. But he is also the most arrogant, classless, and inconsiderate a**hole to ever play the game. He makes a horrible role model for todays' youth with his uncontrollable and incessant cursing, spitting and other childish antics. His defenders say "Well, he's still young, he'll outgrow it." Get real, he's THIRTY years old and should be acting like a responsible adult instead of the spoiled brat that he is...never worked a day in his life. Because of his physical talents, people tend to dismiss or deny his inappropriate behavior. He does not represent the 'gentlemen's game' well at all. Call me jealous or immature, but I absolutely LOVE it when he loses! Long live Arnie, Jack and Gary! Now THOSE gentlemen have CLASS!!!

Green with jealousy! He had every right to leave when he was not even close, 3 under par could have been different. If it could have been another player no one will say anything.
Ask the players, the cursing, spitting and so on, are pretty standard, accept the cameras were not on them all the time.
Talking about role model?
Who would share his wealth with his parents and even announced it the day when he won his first major, the kid has love and respect for his parents as well as gratitude! Children of today should apt him on that. The petty matters you had mentioned were nothing but your expression of jealousy deep in you. You should introspect yourself before you shout out so loud kiddo.
Bye for now!

happy hippy hacker,

Check the old records of Jack,Arnie and Gary, they did the same. Unfortunately, being green in jealousy overrides everything.
Professional golfing is his job, just that he likes what he does well at.Are u a 9 to 5 person? So, open up and watch his golf and enjoy it when he plays his best.
Bye for now.

Maria...
You should seal your mouth shut before you shout out so loud. Yeah, that should work nicely(just kidding). A dignified person would be much too humble and gracious to announce publicly what they will be doing with their wealth...but not good old Tiger. Furthermore,I didn't realize that the PGA kept record books on cursing, spitting, club-throwing, and childishly inappropriate behavior. Nothing personal, honey.

Lou,
When he made that announcement he was only a kid, with gratitude and sincerely. He did say "Hello" world, didn't he.
Now, does he mentioned about sharing his wealth with his parents. He had done it, and it is on going. All he said was "Thank You" to his Dad and Mum.
Anyway, hi! and good luck.
best regards,
maria

You don't have to like Tiger Woods but you have to respect him. Not only is he an amazing winner, unlike other "superstars" in other sports, he respects the tradition of golf by knowing who his elders are ... unlike the dimwit superstar players who ask Frank Robinson if he ever played or Barry Bonds disrepecting babe Ruth ... Woods cherishes and respects elders like Nicklaus, B. Nelson, etc and appreciates courses like St. Andrews. You don't have to be a fan of Woods but you have to respect him as a champion. Golf could not ask for a better 21st century ambassador ... unless of course, your hate is really because he's not white but then you have bigger problems.

As for leaving - he's in a no win situation. You rail against him for leaving but he was totally honest (another trait of his - he says it straight and you'll notice he never balmes anyone else but himself for putting, driving or chipping poorly) - by leaving he said 'those guys are not coming back' and in essence I'm not going to sit around in a clubhouse watching three holes and wishing ill on my fellow players. He's just not that kind of competitor. I did my best and now, good luck to the rest of you.

So, unlike "Happy Hippy Hacker" who is against Tiger swearing but okay with it himself (because only he can swear) is also upset because Tiger, unlike him doesn't root against people with the fervor of someone in a white hood.

you should all pay attention to maria loy & jbelkin - they're right on the money - take it from an insider who knows. there are no angels on the PGA tour. the media just loves to make the good guys look like bad guys( the same way they cover the war)

jbelkin and rob,
If you, jack, were a REAL insider, you wouldn't be bothering with all of this nonsense. I, on the other hand, have nothing but time and thoroughly enjoy reading all of this inane hooey by other fellow idiots. Yes, I'm secure enough to recognize myself among the potentially misinformed and opinionated...after all, that's what these ridiculous blogs are all about...opinions. And while they are occasionally entertaining, does anyone really ever hope to influence ou change anybody's mind? Simply put, it's your choice to like Tiger, I choose not to...and that won't likely change unless he undergoes a personality transplant. Jbelkin, it has NOTHING to do with race or jealousy, but EVERYTHING to do with attitude and behavior. Tiger has never lived in the "real" world so that might explain his lack of compassion and consideration for others. And while I certainly do not condone his antics, I do understand their origins, it always comes back to parenting. Just look at George W. I rest my case.

"Hockey is a sport for white men. Basketball is a sport for black men. Golf is a sport for white men dressed like black pimps." Tiger Woods That's funny, you're a white man trying to dress like a black man.

The Comedy Channel could raise they ratings by bidding for every tournament that TW plays in.
He has become the Biggest Joke in GOlf! ! ! and...while they are at it, they could move the other jokes over for coverage since they love TW so much. The Producers, and Announcers on ABC, NBC, CBS, ESPN, The Golf Channel, etc. It is amazing that Johhny Miller and Lanny Watkins ever won a tournament...they know nothing about golf. All they do in insert a few "Golf 101" comments into the coverage. One more thing, the PGA should be ashamed of themselves for letting TW get away with what he does!!!!

Tiger:
About 50% of the people do not like Tiger.
They see in him arrogance - no real respect for those who played before him.
His Buddhist religion and parental philosophy possibly taught him that he creates his existence and taken the wrong way could create separation instead of unity.
He somehow feels above others by his talent in golf. He's driven dualistically to succeed or fail. Fear drives this man and eventually he will come to terms with doubt and this will be his true test.
As for now he goes against the grain, I would like to like him but unfortunately he spreads separation and his fans are those of rebellion.
Good luck to him in the future.
Nicklaus he is happier and a more rounded model as a sportsman and person.
