Waiting to break through: Trev!!!!

Thursday September 8, 2005 | 13:01:31 174 words, 1081 views
Win a free golf book!

As I peruse the leaderboard of the Canadian Open, Trevor Immelman’s name appears at -3. This is THE GUY to watch for the next few years. Even though he has won around the globe, including a World Cup with noted slowpoke Rory Sabbatini, that breakthrough win in the US of A will establish him as much more than Luke “Are you waiting for me to choke again” Donald, the current media darling.

You need only re-examine Immelman’s reaction to his ace at 16 on the weekend at Augusta to know the level of physical fitness he has attained. He got huge air!! I’m guessing 39 inches of flight space when the ball went in the hole. Compare that to Philly Mick’s one point five inches of vertical when he won the tournament in 2004. If Immelman wins The Masters, I think he’ll jump to the moon.

Immelman is one of many talented South Africans (Els, Clark, Goosen, and Sabbatini are others) waving that country’s flag. I for one am looking forward to watching Trev for years to come.
