The itsy-bitsy Spider unveiled: Sean Cochran's ultimate stretch.
Tuesday January 31, 2006 | 13:52:25 158 words, 1535 views
The Spider has gone public. Now I can write this blog. Yay for me. Sean Cochran’s book and I have been like Thelma and Louise this last week. Of all the exercises that Phil Mickelson’s conditioning coach introduced to me, the Spider is the most demanding and the one I cannot, simply cannot, envision Phil doing. I am a lean guy, 5′9″ and 170 pounds, and I cannot do more than ten spiders before collapsing in agony (or as Sean likes to put it, “own level of tolerance.") I feel as though I’ve had a speculum inserted through my belly button, into my core. Let me tell you that my hamstrings have never felt as elongated or as powerful as they do after I spider around. I’m Peter Parker! This mix of strength and conditioning has me champing at the bit for the start of golf season. I’ll keep you posted as Winter shakes hands with Spring in the Northeast. Comments:

I'm sure Sean's a great guy, but would you want to be known as Phil's conditioning coach. Isn't that like saying your Nichole Richie's chef. Have you seen Lefty this year he looks like a bear coming out of hibernation. Can't we refer to Sean as the conditioning coach to one of his client's that are in, I don't know, good condition.
No, Phil is a rock. Seriously. He is strong and flexible, but I still can't see him doing the Spider. Now John Daly's strength coach, as I recall, is named Anheuser or Busch, or something like that.

Whatever you say Ron Mon. He may be strong and he may even be flexible, but he ain't no rock. The spider, however looks like a great stretching exercise, one which I will certainly try this year.
I get no money for saying this, but I'll write it anyway: buy the book. I plan to use it with my high school girls and guys teams, to great advantage. What better place to try it out than on my own self, the original guinea pig?

Is that the exercise that is performed while getting a boiling oil enema?

Ron,
Great to hear your commentary on spiders and other exercises in my book. I will look forward to hearing about your progress. Anything I can do for golf team let me know.
