Time To Show You Belong On The USA Ryder Cup Side

That’s right, all capital letters, boys. Time to stand up and say, Captain Tom, I belong. In the words of the donkey in Shrek, Pick me, Pick me!

While Blogger Dave examines the Gospel according to Phil and what it really means, and Blogger Kiel wonders how well a middle-aged college coach will do against the world’s best, what matters to me are the guys on the cusp of making and missing the Ryder Cup side, USA style.

So here we go: John Rollins, Luke Glover, Stewie Cink, and Jerry Kelly, it’s on you. I have no desire to see Davis or Fred make the team outright. John, we have no idea how you feel about this side. Luke, same thing. Stew, we’ve seen you play poorly for the USA before, ditto Jerry. In fact, Jerry has a penchant for gagging when team membership is on the line.

Who might I like to see? Oberholser, for one. I think that he might have th right stuff, and he might pair well with Tiger, if the Furyk thing goes awry. Tim Herron would be good, if only for his girth. I hope that Captain Tom goes with Verplank and a young guy as his captain’s picks as, unlike most of America, I have no faith in Fred or Davis as veteran leadership. All I remember about Fred is poor finishes at The Belfry, and Davis whining to Curtis about Sergio doing the macarena up and down the fairway. It’s time for a change, America, if only on the Ryder Cup side.
