Sports Illustrated Golf Running Scared!

I’ve noticed something lately on the Sports Illustrated website. Michael Bamberger, Alan Shipnuck, John Garrity, and others have supplied the Golf section with multiple articles. The regularity of their postings is cause for alarm only in a cynical world, much like the one I inhabit.

Throughout most of 2006, the only reporter with regular postings was Gary Van Sickle, whose recent video appearances reveal that his on-site photo is at least ten years old. That has nothing to do with his writings, albeit a bit with his personal vanity.

My conclusion: Sports Illustrated is wary. At last count, some twenty bloggers write with frequency on TravelGolf.com. These writers vary in age, gender (a little) and ethnicity (a little), as well as personal politics and intuition. SI feels a bit of competition in the cyber world, and has stepped up the postings from its major writers. In the end, that’s a good thing for viewers, and perhaps will force a response in terms of even better quality and theme choice from the TravelGolf.Com team of writers. Who’ll fire the first salvo?

The first salvo...Gosh I hope it's not Bamberger with a piece on the Rules of Golf.
