Creamer returns to LPGA victory circle at SBS Open in Hawaii

Recently, the aged and daft Will Wolfrum insinuated that I rarely link to other pages, blogs, etc. I cannot deny nor confirm that allegation, so I will move on to the business at hand. Paula Creamer has returned to the winner’s circle on the LPGA Tour. The Pink Panther turned in a one-stroke victory over the hottest hispanic on tour, Julieta Granada of Paraguay. It seems that poor, land-locked Paraguay turns out one champion golfer a decade (Carlos Franco owned the 90s), and JG is it.

Paula Creamer
Back to Creamer…after an expected fall-off during her sophomore season on tour (what do they call it, the sophomore slump?) Creamer hung on to victory at the SBS Open by birdeing the 17th after a shaky three-hole stretch from 11-13 (double-par-single). Granada finished well, with three birdies in her final seven holes. Sort-of rookie Morgan Pressel showed the nerves of being in contention for the first time as a pro with a three-bogey, one-birdie performance in the final round. Either one of her first two rounds (69 and 68) would have won the title for MP.

Will Lorena Ochoa repeat her 2006 season? Doubtful (not ‘cause she stinks, only that the tour is so competitive.) The best thing for the tour, in the wake of Michelle Wie’s implosion, is a balanced, exciting season, with victories by top draws like Creamer.

Winning the SBS has been bad karma for the rest of the season. I hope Paula can break the pattern.
