If you’ve never been behind a booth at a golf show, you just might read on. If you’ve been behind a booth at a golf show, you just might commiserate. If you’ve never been to a golf show, you just might be enlightened. Let me tell you about Day One at the Buffalo-Niagara Golf Show, the second in the Upstate New York Golf Show series. The show ran from nine to seven in the Buffalo Convention Center, and included some 75 booths, which isn’t too bad for western New York in Winter. I was there in the guise of director of BuffaloGolfer.Com, the website I direct when I’m not teaching, blogging, or raising cain, I mean, kids.

BuffaloGolfer.Com, as I told people, was in the business of selling information and salvation. Information about golf in western New York, and salvation cloaked as patronage of my golf marathon in June, to raise funds for Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The sweetest music to my ears, after asking the question “Have you heard of BuffaloGolfer.Com?” was “No.” Why no? Well, it simply meant one more person to convert.

After 10 hours of conversation, my voice was muffled, my body was tired, and my wallet was fuller with donations. We’ve still got a long way to go, and would love to receive any online contributions you might be able to make. One more day of it tomorrow, and then we’ll tally up the total of converts and contributors.

I’m lucky. I don’t have to sell product for my livelihood. To my left was a good friend, selling backyard putting greens. He is a crack golfer and a better green installer, but any purchase of a backyard short game facility is quite a monetary commitment. To my right was another good friend, a clubmaker and golf teacher. Similar situation…people just weren’t buying. They went home a bit frustrated, while I went home mildly elated. The razor’s edge is thin, ehh?

Ron Mon...

For starters, God bless you for getting involved in coaching high school girls. I have done is since 2000 when my kid was a frosh. She is now playing #1 for a D-1 school. Got to love their work ethic, especially if you are stationed in CA as I was for a year. Wonder why the Oriental girls are taking over the LPGA Tour, one word, committment.... Bless you.

Reason for writing, as you were mentioned, suggest to you please tell Twiddle Dumb and his bride Bimbo (Golf for Beginners) to take some lessons and quit ruining new comers to the game with their lack of knowlege and ability... Obviously you know the game or you would not be teaching the game to the future of the game...

Makes me sick to read written ignorance about the greatest we will ever see in our lifetime crusified by 14 handicapers.
