Loogie of the week on the PGA Tour: Who else but Sergio

Sunday March 25, 2007 | 21:55:06 172 words, 2029 views
Win a free golf book!
If you haven’t seen it, nor heard of it, it’s not much in the way of news. However, we can now add the loogie incident to the shoe incident and the finger incident in the Garcia pantheon. For those who have forgotten, Garcia flipped off the crowd at Bethpage in 2002 when they counted aloud the number of waggles he took before hitting shots. In 1999 (one that I had forgotten) he tossed a shoe at an advertising sign, then kicked it. Since he is a decent footballer (soccer player to my USA brethren) it should ... full post »

Money Versus Points: Two systems equal confusion on the PGA Tour

Sunday March 25, 2007 | 21:30:20 314 words, 1811 views
Mark Wilson won the Honda Classic a few weeks ago. That feat by itself would have earned a Masters invitation in the not-too-distant past. As of this morning, Wilson sat in 8th place on the FedEx Cup points list; he now finds himself in the 10th slot. On the official money list, Wilson occupied the 9th slot this morning, but dropped to 12th when the CA Championship was completed. Guess what? Wilson will stay home the week of The Masters. His 10th slot on the “new and official” list is not good enough to ... full post »

The First Thousand...A Golf Marathon To Fight Cancer

Saturday March 24, 2007 | 06:42:57 202 words, 1885 views
Here are some snippets from the first Thousand dollars raised to fight cancer in June in my 100-hole golf marathon… …I know that 100 holes isn’t a lot…they do 10 rounds in a day in the Golf Styles (formerly Washington Golf Monthly) fundraisers. For me, it’s a start. …Thanks to two fellow TravelGolf/WorldGolf bloggers for contributing some of their hard-earned cash. Ditto to the people at BuffaloGolfer.Com (oh, that’s me) and the public from the Buffalo-Niagara golf show who entered the raffles. …Are there any TravelGolf.Com blog viewers who have a spare $5 laying around? Donations come in all shapes ... full post »

Political Division on the PGA Tour? Say it ain't so!!

Tuesday March 20, 2007 | 23:02:07 244 words, 2067 views
There is a salty article on Golf.Com that threatens for the first time in recent memory to reveal a political division among the Republicans of the PGA Tour. It seems that the growth of limited-field invitational events eliminates opportunity for players not on the A-List. Is this the Viper Club or what? Did Tim Finchem hire bouncers and not tell anyone? The article hammers home the situation of Ryan Moore and his injured/recovered hand. The salacious point about the “lords of Augusta” not reserving his invitation until he regained his health is akin to the recent discovery ... full post »

John Daly, Superhero: The Man of Nougat

Tuesday March 20, 2007 | 17:53:17 337 words, 2111 views
After I wet myself a few weeks back, reading about John Daly’s untimely demise at the Honda classic, I gathered enough of myself to consider exactly what we were dealing with here. John Daly, even more than Tiger Woods, is the most compelling golfer of his generation. Allow me to present my case… Way before Rick Reilly’s chapter on Daly appeared in “Who’s Your Caddie?” the legend of Daly had grown to mythic proportions. Here was the rubber-spined, mullett-bedecked arkansian who reacted in Pavlovian fashion to the Squeeksters admonitions of “Kill, John, Kill” by winning the 1991 PGA Championship ... full post »

RSVP...Regrets Only...How to botch your first PGA Tour event

Sunday March 18, 2007 | 01:28:50 246 words, 2144 views
Yet another great trolling day for bizarre stories from the world of professional golf. Richie Ramsay, US Amateur champion, incapable of reserving a spot in a tournament. Are you telling me, please, for charity’s sake, that a 23-year aged Scotsman is unaware that he should call a tournament? That it says nowhere on the invitation, in the invitation packet, that he must contact the event? That no one in his family or limited entourage would say “hey, ya know, should you place a call to Bay Hill to let them know that you accept?” If my invitation ... full post »

PGA Tour and yet another nonsensical rule

Saturday March 17, 2007 | 21:44:32 276 words, 1930 views
Here’s a quickie for you…thanks to the team at SI.Com, I learned that Boo Weekley was penalized two strokes for pulling a flag to save partner Tom Johnson a two-stroke penalty. Somehow this reminds me of the problems that New York state is having with the Seneca nation…bear with me. Rather than try to lower taxes to the level that the Senecas pay to sell tobacco and gasoline, New York seems intent to raise them up to the same asinine level that the rest of us pay. No wonder the private sector swirls down the drain in NYS. Now switch ... full post »

Pro Golf round of year to date on European Tour

Saturday March 17, 2007 | 20:17:36 357 words, 1942 views
I’m not going to tell you to remember the name Chapchai Nirat (or is it Nirat Chapchai?) I can never get asian names right, uncertain as to whether the last name equals our first name, or versa vice… I won’t predict that CN or NC or Chappy is the next great Thailandic thing, since predictions of that ilk are folly. Media folk love to be the first to predict the ascendance of a nascent talent…what skill is there in that? Better to provide a well-researched article than fire bullets wildly at prepubescent targets, hoping for the one big ... full post »

Jam Boy's new logo...Whose bottom is it?

Wednesday March 7, 2007 | 17:55:16 192 words, 2346 views
I just read a blog about what is up in the world of golf blogs, and was horrified at what I saw!! Take a look at Jam Boy’s new logo…wait, let’s back up. TRJB (The Reluctant Jam Boy) is one of the great golf bloggers, a reformed caddy, a lush, a card shark, whatever you want to call him. Anyhow he has this new logo (here it is…) that looks like a flagstick being hoisted from his arse. Those aren’t rolling hills, but rolling buttocks!!(buttoxen?) It reminds me of the big peach in Gaffney, South Carolina. ... full post »

Rankmark's Hybrid Test...Imperfect without Izzo

Tuesday March 6, 2007 | 12:01:15 161 words, 2164 views
One of my favorite club-testing sites came out with a hybrid test and results today. Their technology prevents me from linking directly to the test, but if we could, the URL would be HERE. However, in order to see the results, you’ll just have to go to their homepage and click hybrids. I have the inside track on a new hybrid from Izzo, the company that invented that double bag strap way back when. The Zbrid is available, but most people don’t know that Izzo makes clubs, let along good ones. I also have a 12.5 degree ... full post »

Boo Weekley...Time To End The RonMon PGA Jinx!

Saturday March 3, 2007 | 13:54:33 115 words, 2177 views
Boo Weekley is making a mid-Saturday run at PGA National, and it’s time for him to end his victory drought, and for RonMon’s prediction jinx to end! I don’t watch Buffalo Sabres and Bills games because I don’t want to jinx my team (I know…didn’t help the Bills four years in a row, nor the Sabes in 1999!) I’m a nut job when it comes to this. However, I believe that the most favorite graduate (did he graduate?) from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College is primed for glory. Boo Weekley was the highest-ranked Nationwide Tour guy to not win last year, ... full post »

Ernie Els says, Here comes Callaway...Is Garcia Next?

Friday March 2, 2007 | 14:06:00 242 words, 2258 views
So Ernie Els signed with Callaway…big deal. Actually, it is, as he represents the second huge player signing on the guys tour in the last few years. In all honesty, though, I can’t blame Titleist…why pay these guys what they demand, as they are heading toward the downside of their marketing careers. In golf, it’s usually the young guns who command attention and adoration of a young, ready-to-spend, fan base. The older guys, like Phil and Ernie (married with children) are not sexy enough for Titleist to waste their breath. I see it as similar to the ... full post »

Google, UPromise, Yahoo have tool bars...RonMon needs a tool bar

Thursday March 1, 2007 | 05:54:10 228 words, 2806 views
This offering below from UPromise was the latest tool bar to hit my screen, and of course, like all thing great and small, it got me to thinking…do I need a tool bar? Do I need to offer readers and viewers all things me, for free? The answer, of course, is yes. Just think how much simpler your world would be with the RonMon Tool Bar…commonplace responsibilities would melt away, daily tasks would disappear, and chores of all natures would vanish into completion with the simple installation of … ME … on your desktop. What would I put ... full post »
