Andrew Giuliani: From Chris Farley's sites to Duke's varsity

Win a free golf book!

It’s funny how one thing leads to another. I was reading the results of the ACC golf championship (see my penultimate blog entry) and started looking for Michael Quagliano on the Duke side. Seems like dude didn’t make the starting five for the Blue Devils. Quagliano was all-everything as a junior golfer, winning almost every event he entered on the IJGT. So I bounced to the Duke team site and found Quagliano…still on the team, but not among the top quintet. As I read on, another name jumped out, with a lot of vowels (like mine and Quag’s): Andrew Giuliani…NO WAY!

Can’t be the same guy that Farley parodied on SNL…yup, you got it. Rudy’s kid, golfing for the Devils. Turns out the kid is pretty good, and didn’t need anyone’s help to make the team. Giuliani has qualified for the US Am, played in a number of top-shelf Am events, and shot in the 60s on quite a few competitive occasions.

For a trip down SNL memory lane, I wanted to give you a dedicated YouTube link to Farley’s skit, but found only this one…the Giuliani thing is about three minutes in, so be patient. Oh, wait, here’s a better one (or at least shorter…about 1:55 in and longer lasting…he destroys David Dinkins in this one.

So that’s it for this blog. Enjoy the evolution of Andrew Giuliani..from Farley Fodder to Duke Golfer. Nice to see a story have a happy ending.
