Amanda Blumenhurst, Duke’s leading lady, survived a 19-hole, first-round match, then won the next three by 5&4, 5&4 and 6&5. She faces defending champion Kimberly Kim, who has won three matches by one hole, along with one breather (4&3). However, the on-fire player is the newest Colombian sensation, Shakira. I mean, Maria Jose Uribe. She dispatched US Publinks champ Mina Harigae by 5&4. Uribe was 5-under in her victory, while Blumenhurst (-5, including 4 secuential birdies), Nang (-3) and Kim (-5 through 21 holes) also performed impressively. John Daly went hog-wild in 1991 over Pete Dye’s Crooked Stick Golf Club course, and the ladies are following suit. Saturday and Sunday should be shoot-outs at the CS corral, I do declare.
