Yep, Tiger did what tigers do. Stripes and all, eight birdies, one bogey, hello, PGA record round. The story this week is the girls of Indiana. That Alexis Thompson kid? She had destroyed her opponents all week (scores of 3&2, 5&4, 5&4), until she lost by that brutal 5&4 today at the hands of Ha Na Jang. Amanda Blumenhurst, Duke’s leading lady, survived a 19-hole, first-round match, then won the next three by 5&4, 5&4 and 6&5. She faces defending champion Kimberly Kim, who has won three matches by one hole, along with one breather (4&3). However, the on-fire player is the newest Colombian sensation, Shakira. I mean, Maria Jose Uribe. She dispatched US Publinks champ Mina Harigae by 5&4. Uribe was 5-under in her victory, while Blumenhurst (-5, including 4 secuential birdies), Nang (-3) and Kim (-5 through 21 holes) also performed impressively. John Daly went hog-wild in 1991 over Pete Dye’s Crooked Stick Golf Club course, and the ladies are following suit. Saturday and Sunday should be shoot-outs at the CS corral, I do declare.
