To begin the updated rankings. Alex Prugh made a valiant comeback against Jon Curran. 3 down with 4 to play, Prug made 3 birdies and a bogey while Curran went par-bogey-bogey-par. Just when it seemed the 15th-ranked Curran might succumb to pressure, he birdied the 19th hole to oust Prugh.

4. Gene Elliott
5. Anyone else who might win

Signs that the USA Walker Cup team is in trouble
1. Tripp Kuehne and Jonathan Moore missed match play by a zip code.
2. Webb Simpson, Billy Horschel and Dustin Johnson lost in the first
round of match play.
3. Colt Knost and Chris Kirk survived by 2 and 1, and 1 Up 19 in first-round matches against the legal firm of Bramlett and Schram.

Old Guy Championship
George Zahringer shot 78 in his match against Gary Wolstenholme, but still won when Wolsty pitched a 79, highlighted by consecutive double bogeys. My guess is that neither of these coots would have won against another opponent today, with the possible exception of Tyson Ketchum.

Letdown Loss
British Amateur champion Drew Weaver started out by losing holes two through seven to quickly go 6 down. He lost hole 10 to go seven down, won 11-13 with two birds and a par, then bowed out, 4 & 3. Included in Weaver’s round was an X on number 4 (at least a bogey, as opponent Travis Howe made par) and a total of +3 for the other 13 holes.
