USGA Men's Amateur: Pre-Quarterfinal Report

1. The foreign contingent is through to the quarters. Canada, Colombia and Taipei will all be represented in the round of 8. 2. The stock of Derek Fathauer and Michael Thompson is rising in the eyes of the USGA’s Walker Cup selection committee. Unless Fathauer wins the hole kit and kaboodle, I see Thompson and Kyle Stanley as selections to round out the USA side. 3. The old coot bid farewell, but not without a fight. George Zahringer lost at the hands of the hottest amateur in the country, Colt Knost. The reigning APL champion, Knost will attempt to pull a Ryan Moore and win both the APL and the Am in the same summer. Not that common a feat, but it’s funny how all these country club guys end up playing in the Pub Links. What’s up with that? 4. Jamie Lovemark bowed out at the hands of Nick Taylor, 3 & 2.
