Sarah Turcotte: Fake Pro Faking Her Way To The Tour

All it took was one read of a Sarah Turcotte blog post to make me hurl. I’d just finished reading Dottie Pepper’s vicious missive to BJ and Bo Wie (and applauding old Dottie, mind you), when I stumbled onto this fodder from Turcotte. Here’s the tease for the series:

Sarah Turcotte is an associate editor for ESPN the Magazine. This is her first foray into pro golf.

Turcotte is working some sort of a day job with ESPN, preventing her from actually playing golf:

I’m not going to lie. I love the driving range. I’ve always been a fantastic range player. I can stand out there all day admiring the shots I hit at nebulous targets off clean lies.

As such, she cannot actually play a sequential round of golf:

Because there is no traditional course or range in Manhattan, I spend much of my time at Chelsea Piers Golf Club

I guess my only thought is, how far are you going to go? Unless you play tournaments, feel the knots in your stomach, the weakness in your knees, the zoinks in your arms, you’ll not make it off the first tee as a pro. Enough of these clowns and clownettes who attempt to “make it” on a part-time basis. I’ve got a series of quotes that might come in handy:
“I’m really close,”
“I just have to keep working hard,”

If you close your eyes, you’ll hear Turcotte sounding just like Wie.
“I’m proud of myself for hanging in there.”

I think Turcotte's adventure ad pretending to be a pro serves its purpose. I and many others do enjoy watching her make an attempt at this feat, no matter how impossible (and perhaps preposterous) it is. Sometimes, its the journey that's most enjoyable.
