Creamer "coasts" to seven consecutive birdies
Thursday November 8, 2007 | 18:10:57 53 words, 2399 views
Really quick here: Paula Creamer banged out seven consecutive birdies to finish (it seems) her first round at the LPGA T of C in Alabama. The Pink Panther shot 29 on the back after an opening-nine 38. Creamer is tied for first with the eternally-young Meg Mallon, with a five-pack two strokes behind in third. Comments:

To all the guys who sneer at the LPGA, go play the regular men's tees for the rest of your life (usually in the 6200-6500 yard range) and see how often you make 7 consecutive birdies. How about, never.

Shanks,
If you're referring to guys like me who view women's golf as a pitty-pat game, your hypothesis is a fallacy. Paula is a professional. It is expected of her to occasionally run off a string of birdies. As she said, she has had six in a row several times. I am a 14 handicap amateur. I rarely ever get a birdie. It isn't expected of me. It is expected that I succeed at my own profession. Vijay Singh, Stuart Appleby, and Brad Faxon are pros who have "sneered" at the women's game. Do you think that those guys would have any trouble racking up birdies on an LPGA course. Let's compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges.

If the shoe fits, by all means put it on. And it's not surprising that a few of those at the top of the game are unable to look at anything less in an objective manner. Conversely, you'll never hear Woods or Mickelson have anything but praise for their female counterparts. Woods even goes as far as spending some of his time playing with Annika Sorenstam. Once again, are they as good as the men? Not even close. But can a 14 hdcp man learn a lot from from them? You better believe it. Who knows, you might even make back-to-back birdies one day if you pay close enough attention.
