Daly's Disqualification bounces OHern and Imada: Another Finchem PR Coup

The strange trip of John Daly may have done some good today, revealing yet another ridiculous policy in the PGA Tour handbook of Tim Finchem. The following quote originates in a Golf.Com story on the Arnold Palmer Invitational:

“And the thing that upsets me is I cost Nick O’Hern and Ryuji Imada, so now I got these guys mad at me, too.”

Imada and O’Hern were alternates for the pro-am, and both thought they were assigned to the afternoon group. Instead, they were the first two names called when Daly didn’t show, and when neither was around, they also were disqualified from the $5.8 million event.

What is the protocol here? If we believe Daly, a tournament worker gave him the Thursday time not the Wednesday one he requested. Since he already had played the Monday Pro-Am, where is the sympathy? Honestly, how many pro-ams should he have to play? Is the event that cash-strapped?

On to O’Hern and Imada. Where they supposed to wait on stand-by at the first tee, on the off chance that someone, anyone, might pull a no-show? Unless someone can elaborate on the pro-am policy, it seems to be a case of the tail wagging the dog.

I don’t imagine that anyone shows up to see Daly anymore, nor do O’Hern and Imada represent a specific demographic on the rise in golf-biz influence. However, the API is now without three talented competitors with no good reason. Mr. Tim? Mr. Arnold? Answers?

Ron, you're right -- Why disqualify two guys who didn't even know they were supposed to be there? Idiotic, moronic policy.

Speaking of which, it is clear that John Daly is not a smart man. Drunk or sober, doesn't matter. He's not smart no matter what state he's in. For this reason, I believe that he was the victim of miscommunication -- his, the volunteer's, or both.

And to reiterate, DQing two other guys because they weren't hanging around the clubhouse on the off chance they might get bumped up is beyond "not smart." Sounds like a drunk thought up that policy.

O'Hern & Imada got screwed. But does Daly really expect us to believe that he was the only one of 52 golfers who was given bad tee time info? (Yeah, sure, and the dog ate my homework.) Typical drunk excuse-making. I say ban him from the Big Show until at a minimum he proves himself on the Nationwide Tour.

JD needs long term rehab and an army of pyschiatrist to figure out what makes him tick.

Sean O'Hair seems to have a little of his "Dad" in him after recent statement. Saying that it was John Daly that caused him to not get in....first of all, Sean you were "NOT" in to start with and if your ego didn't get in the way, you would have been at the course and been waiting. Two wins and the tour owes you! Grow up and pay your dues like everyone before you!

Bill--Sean O'Hair is playing (he's currently +1 after 17 holes). Nick O'Hern got screwed by JD's mistake. O'Hern had no reason to be at the course. He lives 5 minutes away, and he was making his two young daughters breakfast at the time. He had no reason to believe he should have been hanging around the clubhouse instead.

Sheesh, get your Irish names straight before you start dissing people. Grow up.

Thanks for clearing that one up. I tried w/o success to find the statement by Sean O'Hair, particularly as I could see him in the field. Never occured to me that it was simply a confusion between two O's.

Yeah, gee, I wish that Sean O'Hair wasn't
such a whiner. Not.
He just dropped a -7 on the field.
