Past Champions and Lefties: Curiosities of the 2008 Masters

Seven past champions made the cut at The Masters this Thursday and Friday. That seems pithy to me. Woods, Mickelson, Johnson, Singh, Weir, Woosnam and Lyle. Not a law firm, mind you, although I’ve seen many whose shingle contains more names. This new Masters eliminates the older players from the mix. By older, I mean over 44. You won’t get a 40-something champion at Augusta again, unless we discover a pheromone in azaleas that stimulates muscular growth in mid-life crisis crackers. That’s my first odd factoid for the day.

Southpaws, zurdos, lefties, they’re on the verge of taking over at Da’ Nashional. Steve Flesch is tied with Immelman at the top. If he wins, that will make four lefty champs (Mickelson twice plus Weir once) in the past decade.

Whoops…just cursed ole Fleschy. He bogeyed, so Immelman’s the only one left at -8. Will Tiger get bored with winning and switch to the other side?
