I hate when the USGA plays politics. This year they screwed Mike Thompson out of a spot on the Walker Cup team, just like they did to Brandt Snedeker a few years ago. Well, just goes to show what THEY know. Snedeker, just as he did in his amateur heyday, shook off a bad patch of three straight bogeys (11-13) with 3 closing birdies (14, 15 and 17) to remain within striking distance of Trev Immelman. No slouch he, the South African birdied four of his final 11 holes to finish -11, putting to rest suggestions that Saturday would be his moving-down day. As far as the Woods plot line goes, he needs to get to -10 (67 on Sunday) and wait for the rest of the contenders to wake up and realize where they are late tomorrow afternoon. In spite of the 6-stroke advantage, Immelman is not a lock. He’ll play with the younger Sneds again tomorrow and have the ride of his life. Cannot wait to see it!
