Masters Sunday: The New Masters Website!!

One of our cronies around here hinted at the improvements made to the The Masters website for 2008. Old BT recognizes the importance of coverage of the event from practice through jacket ceremony. I’m here to concur and expand. As anticipated, you can access any score or statistic you set your heart on. From birdies and eagles to hole-by-hole averages to current stats of amateurs, former champions and one-eyed Martians, it’s all a mouse-click away. Finding the guys who missed the cut may be the most difficult task at hand, but I’ll keep trying.

The section with the most forward promise is Video and Games. You can create your own video highlight reel and mail it off, play concentration with Masters icons, or try your hand at putting around Amen Corner. I putted as a girl and had 8 strokes combined, compared with 12 strokes as a guy. It’s a fun game, automatically aims you and gives you a topographical map (lower left corner) to help you gauge speed. Don’t try it with Firefox browser, though…Internet Explorer-compatible only!

The Masters and Me is an interview series with a variety of patrons. As expected, the compilers do a fine job balancing ethnicity, age and gender. The one thing they have in common, as you might guess, is a fawning admiration for the golf course

There is a blogging section but, much like the purported USGA blog, it must have a great degree of oversight from the powers that are at the golf place.

News and Photos brings the still frames of a lifetime, from Jeev Singh pointing to Ian Poulter’s Diary (no clue as to the hue…pink? Turquoise?) It’s all lovely beyond words.

The Masters is a one-week event that can be planned for an entire year. Tournaments from around the tours could take note and, if the budget exists, add a few more bells and whistles to their websites for 2008 and beyond.
