Shoal Creek: Remember Me?
The USGA Junior Amateur is visiting Shoal Creek this month. Golf.Com gives some insightful commentary, then incites some more controversy. Here’s a quote:
(Shoal Creek actually was close to hosting the Senior Amateur six or seven years ago but was unable provide the fleet of golf carts the tournament required.)
Really? You mean they couldn’t call up the other clubs in the area and ask to borrow the carts? Smells fishy. Might have been a few “undesireables” in the field.
I remember Payne Stewart being asked about Shoal Creek just before they gave up the PGA and giving some glib answer. Before he could wedge his ankle down his esophagus, Fuzzy Zoeller clapped his hand over Knicker Boy’s mouth and said something akin to “We’re golfers, not politicians. Don’t ask us any questions requiring social commentary. We speak golf.” Sad to say that Fuzzy was later skewered for his Tiger Woods-related “okra” comment.
Shoal Creek gets a pass for this event. As David Fay implies, no course deserves the death penalty for one offense. The world will be watching as the USGA Junior takes place precisely one week after the NAACP convention.

Until one remembers that you're RonMon.
From Golf Magazine:
Shoal Creek became a symbol of country clubs' exclusionist practices when, in the lead-up to the 1990 PGA Championship, the club's founder, Hall W. Thompson, told the Birmingham Post-Herald that his club would "not be pressured into accepting" black members. "This is our home," he said, "and we pick and choose who we want."
Thompson's comments drew the ire of civil rights activists and caused several of the PGA's corporate sponsors to withdraw $2 million in TV advertising. The club responded nine days before the PGA by extending an honorary membership to Louis J. Willie, a local insurance executive who was black, though not an avid golfer.
There was that so hard, to cut and paste something like that for Kiel, your one loyal reader as opposed to putting in a comment link that doesn't even work.
It would have been even better if you actually wrote two sentences in your own words about the past controversy in the original blog. But teachers are notoriously lazy, so I wouldn't even demand that or fathom you bothering to do that.
By the way, you also made a blatant mistake. Shoal Creek didn't "give up the PGA" as you wrote. The club still hosted that 1990 PGA Championship.
Of course, I wouldn't have felt the need to point this out if you just showed some common respect for your readers - in your case, your one reader Kiel.
What going on Monny - are the meds just not working? Or is teaching the liberalist cant to our young finally wearing you down?
And yes - even though you mock Baldy - he WAS correct in pointing out that the 90 PGA WAS held at Shoal Creek...you implied it was relocated.
Finally, I believe the reason few people comment on your posts (other than to make fun of you) is NOT because you are "not salacious enough" but rather because what you write is generally just boring and wrong.
