Three other events have our attention this week. In the annual “this event predicts success for no one” event for women, Amanda Blumenhurst takes on Azahara Munyoz (no tilde for the “n,” so I substituted a “y") in the 2-round final. Both finalists played poorly (lots of bogies) in their semifinal wins, although each had a hot quarterfinal round (lots of birdies), so who knows what we’ll see. Other than Morgan Pressel (2005 champion and what has she done lately?), there’s been little success from the winners. Pat Hurst in 1990 is the last winner to have multiple tour wins. Amanda and Azahara could take a dive, except the runners-up have less-than-stellar records, too. Simply not a measure of future success.

A better measure of future success takes place in the hills of “Kentuck.” No, not JB Holmes learning how to (and continuing to) crawl…It’s the Futures Tour battle of the wee titans. Mindy Kim, two-time winner, has a one-shot gap over US Open darling Stacy Lewis, who sliced a 64 off the loaf on Saturday. Another shot back is Vicky “Tabasco” Hurst. Why “Tabasco?” She’s the hottest player on tour in terms of golf scoring average. She might be sexy, too, but she’s young and I’m old and not Roger Clemens. This one should provide some fireworks.

The third event that might be worth some attention is the N-Wide’s Wichita Open. Only problem is, storylines?

Scott Piercy…who?

Hunter Haas…double who?

Dan Summerhays…won on the N-Wide as a amateur two years ago…exempt status running out…needs a win desperately.

Brendon De Jonge…fun to pronounce…who?

Spencer Levin…used to smoke cigarettes on course…how long ago was Shinnecock?

Sorry…better to check out the Scandinavian TPC on the Ladies European Tour or the Pacific Coast Amateur on the non-pro summer circuit…oh, wait, it’s over and the finish was exciting…sorry. Met Am? Another 36 hole final…oh well.
