FedEx Cup Points Distribution Formula Turns Camilo Villegas Into Runner-Up
Sunday September 28, 2008 | 20:11:04 80 words, 28739 views
Chew on these statistics:
Camilo Villegas:
M/C at Barclays
T-3 at Deutsche Bank
1st at BMW
1st at Tour Championship
Vijay Singh:
1st at Barclays
1st at Deutsche Bank
T-44 at BMW
T-22 at Tour Championship
Somehow, I think that an M/C and a T-3 are worth more than Vijay’s “other” finishes. Way to go, PGA Tour. Nice job with the FedEx Cup point distribution. Methinks a freshman stats student might have come up with a better formula. full post »
Deputy Editor at noted golfing magazine shows why he edits, doesn't write
Friday September 26, 2008 | 06:10:59 132 words, 17109 views
Evidently, if you are an editor at a golfing magazine, anything that comes out of your mouth, your pen or your keyboard must be worthy of publication. That is the only conclusion possibly drawn from this article.
Who complained and said that Europe cheated when they had two wild-card picks and we had none? Certainly not flag-waving Michael Corcoran! Where does he get off publishing this drivel at this juncture. I’m sick of the pontifications of guys like Corcoran and Petey Kostis. Is this a recipe of which I am not aware…one side wins, so immediately ... full post »
Travelin' Joe Must Go
Sunday September 14, 2008 | 08:53:14 350 words, 16845 views
This is the second time in a month that I’m questioning a guy who actually gets paid to do this. If it comforts some of you that I do this for free, I’m a happier man.
This dude, Travelin’ Joe, writes about where to play for a major golf magazine. This month’s paper copy arrived on my doorstep and what do I behold but a review of the Kohler Komplex in Wisconsin. I was agreeing with the dude as he rated Straits first, BR River second, Irish third and BR Meadow fourth, until he finished with this statement ... full post »
Two Wedges Worth A Waggle: Feel and Miura
Saturday September 6, 2008 | 07:30:36 614 words, 17264 views
I shall take a break from the excellent Ryder Cup blogs posted by my esteemed colleagues and report on a pair of wedges that good-naturedly agreed to recent interviews. The wedges come from Feel Golf and Miura and define to a degree the variety and distinctiveness of club making in the 2000s.
Feel Golf introduced a 73 degree wedge last Fall. You might be thinking that 73 is a better number to write on a scorecard than on a wedge. I felt the same way when it arrived. As soon as I set the club to address, ... full post »
Azinger, Feeling Sorry For Nick, Snubs Austin
Tuesday September 2, 2008 | 11:36:35 161 words, 17654 views
Austin for Clarke is the way I see it. I understand the other picks, I think…Actually, I do not, save Stricker.
Stricker has earned his way onto the team, case closed.
J.B. Holmes is there to rally the troops. We will not revisit the War By The Shore of 1991, but this is Azinger’s way of mandating fan participation. Does Holmes deserve to be there for his golf? No. His personality? Yes. He represents the righting of a wrong, of the USA always overlooking John Daly, back when other long john was deserving of a ... full post »
Stricker, Austin, OHair, Snedeker
Monday September 1, 2008 | 10:42:37 98 words, 17539 views
My guess is that Paul Azinger, like Rich Rodriguez at Michigan, builds for the future by selecting OHair and Snedeker. Bypassing Mahan, Trahan, Mediate to get to these guys, the USA owes Snedeker one. Back when he was US Publinks champ, he was bypassed by the screwball, incestuous USGA for the Walker Cup team. What the flip was that? World Amateur team, maybe, but Walker Cup team? Please.
OHair just needs that opportunity to play for a team. I see him as a USA Sergio, not winning majors soon but something about him might translate ... full post »
