uPro global positioning for golf: Whammy!

Win a free golf book!

In Anchorman, by his own admission, Champ Kind was known for his catch phrase: Whammy! It may not have been the first exclamation to escape my lips when I finished a round with the uPro gps device but, looking back, it now seems to be the most appropriate reaction. The uPro device is Whammy!

uPro

uPro is a cell phone-sized mechanism that provides gps on the golf course, eliminating the need to consult fairway disks, 150-yard markers, or oddly-shaped bushes and trees that offer a rumor of distance remaining to the green.

uPro is so convinced that its device is THAT awesome that it has put all basic versions of its courses on site FOR FREE! You can download any basic course version from its immense library gratis. I thought it was nice until I downloaded a pro version. The pro version of each course blew me away. Let me tell you about my first experience.

I had the opportunity to test-drive my uPro at a course in western New York this September. Although the carts were equipped with GPS, they gave me distances to center-green only. When I wanted to know how far a bunker, pond, or stand of trees was, I went straight to the uPro and voila! Instant measurement and complete security. Unfortunately, I putted like a baboon on a day when I hit about 10/14 fairways and 11/18 greens in regulation. Sorry, but uPro won’t help your flatstick!

So go with the Pro version over the basic. I have 2009 trips planned to Pinehurst, Daytona, and Long Island and guess what? I’ve already downloaded most of the courses in the Pro version. These should be the best golf junkets ever!

If you’re not the world’s most tech-savvy golfer, no worries. The uPro has way fewer buttons than your television remote and a great website for support. In fact, you can click over there right now to the demo page and see how uPro works for yourself!

uPro will set you back the cost of a high-end driver. The driver will certainly hit the ball farther than the uPro device, but the GPS will help you on every shot you face, from tee to green. In the end, I’d opt for the uPro over the war club…with the money I’ll take out of your pocket, the uPro will pay for itself over the course of a few months. I’m pretty confident you too will opt for Whammy!

Walt, it leaves you one less finger to point. Imagine that you have a green with five different pin positions...you can dial in to each green section and get an exact yardage. It's a caddie without the chit-chat!

The uPro is the next generation of GPS systems. I can't wait to use it more frequently and download a few more of the Pro versions onto it (it's cold here in New York although Barry is playing golf today in the rain!) I'm betting that my distance control will become much more sharp with uPro by my side.

The look and feel reminds me of my iPod.

Barry and I tested it for our holiday gift giving guide and loved it!
