Can Masters replicate Kraft Nabisco Championship?
If the homies in Augusta are fortunate, their spring invitational (that became a major championship of men’s professional golf) will match the interest of the just-concluded Nabisco Championship. Why? The Nabisco had everything a marketing expert could dream up: the best player in women’s golf, an up-an-comer with a sweet smile and a heartfelt background, two young starlets with major ambitions and one grinder who seems destined to win a big one soon.
When the flag on 18 was claimed by Stacy Lewis’ caddie on Sunday afternoon in California, the up-and-comer had come up. The best player [Yani Tseng] had fallen short, the two starlets [Morgan Pressel and Michelle Wie] and the grinder [Angela Stanford] had also failed to produce when the chips were on the table. On to the US Open, for those who follow the majors.
Recipe for the Masters? Phil is in the mix but doesn’t win on Sunday. Same can be said for Kaymer, McDowell, Westwood and their ilk. The winner is a combination of Zach Johnson, Mike Weir and Trevor Immelman. What’s his name? Give me a day or two to review the field and I’ll give you my Stacy Lewis for the 2011 Masters.
