Televised golf and Twitter today on the Golf Channel
A press release about Twitter during a golf telecast flashed across my desk(top) this week, informing me that the Golf Channel would incorporate the birdy social media in its Nationwide Tour Championship coverage, live from Daniel Island.
What will shake down, essentially, is that a Twitter box will appear from time to time in the left portion of the flat screen, either with Rex Hoggard or Randal Mell’s face, accompanied by a relevant tweet. Hoggard and Mell will follow the final two pairings and “tweet their perspective on what transpires while injecting some humor into the broadcast through social media.”
Hoggard will be paired with on-course reporter Kay Cockerill for some give-and-take, while Mell’s partner in crime will be Michael Breed. There’s certainly some potential for parlay, as long as Cockerill and Mell have access to what their cohorts are tweeting. Then again…
the Tweeters could play the role of sneaky, smarmy little brother, hiding behind the older sibling, making twittery faces. For a look at the potential for this weekend, see below. With luck, the dynamic duo will drive enough viewers from the small, mobile screen to the larger, cozier one to make the effort worthwhile.
