A Question For The USGA and the R&A
How did Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson and Ernie Els stack up against the rest of the field during the 2011 PGA Championship, the 2012 USGA Open and the 2012 British Open events? Here’s another: Was putting the reason they won? Here’s another: Did having an anchored putting stroke assuage Adam Scott’s nerves as he came down the final four holes of the British Open he was doomed to lose to Els?
Good call, ruling bodies. You based your proposal on three tournaments, from the perspective of those of us not in your inner circle. Have you heard of transparency? How about telling us the real reasons behind your proposal?
Or did you propose the ban on anchoring so that Elihu Stretchmarks would not defend his title at the Bushwood Directors’ Cup?
Good thing that the NBA and international basketball decided to not ban the jump shot and the dunk. Imagine if everyone were still firing those sexy set shots from all over the court.
Here’s my secret hope. Since the next iteration of the Rules of Golf is not due until 2016, the possibility exists that the law firm of Davis and Dawson will (be encouraged to) reconsider this vapid and injurious proposal and will retract it before it goes into law.
I feel so much better.
